Fashion Trends For 2010

Before another year starts, fashion experts and designers always present us with what they think will be the new trends for the coming year. Some designs are made for a particular season while some are made to be fashionable throughout the year. Some even stay fashionable within the next couple of years. Here are some of the trends that are presented as the “in” thing this year.

The year 2010 is said to be outrageous in terms of clothing as extreme colors and prints are in fashion. Animal prints such as leopard dots are the main eye catchers. Metallic colors like gold and silver are also in fashion. To neutralize the flashy appearance of the prints, neutral colors such as beige and grey are also a definite hit for items such as coats and blazers. See-through top may also be sought out as the season becomes hotter.

Meanwhile, some old designs for shorts and pants are back. Items such as hot pants and jumpsuits are back in fashion. They are best paired with long socks or stockings up to or above the knee. For those who do not prefer to wear the shorts yet still want to show some skin, long skirts and dresses with high splits can keep you look sexy. The split can even be higher than shorts to reveal more skin yet hide more at the same time. Just like with the top, the pants can either have prints and patterns or just come in plain color. Aside from animal prints, abstract, floral and other strong prints brighten up the usually boring color of pants. Ruffles and feathers on skirts and shorts are also in fashion and are paired with neutral-colored tops as complement. Another old-school style that is back is torn and ripped jeans. Patched jeans are also one way to go if desired. The theme of rock-and-roll is something that never gets old.

As for the footwear, neutral tones are mostly worn to complement the catchy prints of the top or the pants. Flats, clogs, wedges and new Oxford shoes are in season.

Women’s fashion accessories such as the earrings also sport the animal prints. For those who feel uncomfortable wearing large prints of leopard dots on their clothes, the earrings are perfect for you to stay in fashion. Talk about animalistic fashion for this year. Large hair accessories are also coming back in fashion. Rock-and-roll and urban accessories are also sought after. Bracelets, studs, rings and chain necklaces can be used to accessorize the torn pants and printed top. As also mentioned, tall socks and torn stockings can be worn with the hot pants and jumpsuit.

This year’s fashion trend for women is feminine yet edgy, a mixture of extreme prints and plain, neutral colors. As the year progresses and seasons change, more fashion trends will surely emerge so stay updated. You should also remember that even if some items in your wardrobe are out of fashion, they should be kept for the future. Who knows when they might be back in fashion again?

Spring 2010 Fashion Trends

With the economy still in a shaky situation, fashion designers unveiled a new season based on hope and the idea that anything can happen.  An eclectic mix of opposing trends, spring 2010 promises to be a fun year for the fashionable.  Even if you don’t have the budget to spend on a lot of new clothes, you can still pull off many of the newest trends from the runway.  Here are some of the popular looks and how you can achieve them at home.

Knee high and thigh high socks are a huge trend this year.  Unlike buying a new dress, socks are fairly inexpensive so you can spurge a little on this fad.  The key to looking amazing in higher socks is to “pick the length wisely…to suit your body’s shape.”  Stick with knee high socks if you don’t wish to draw attention to larger thighs.  Both above the knee and just below the knee cut socks are available, so try them on to see which you like best.  Below the knee is usually more flattering since you don’t have the “bulge” of your kneecap in the sock.  “If you’re short, knee high socks that cut off below the knee are best paired with a shorter hemline to expose more leg and, thus, imply greater height. The hem should be no lower than the middle of your thigh.”  For taller ladies, thigh high socks provide the perfect opportunity to show off your incredible legs.  Wild colors and textures are part of the fun and fashion of high socks, so you can feel free to go crazy.  However, do not pair high socks with short plaid or pleated skirts.  You do not want to look like a school girl as it is not considered fashionable, just slutty.

The rocker chic vibe that was so popular last season has morphed into a “futuristic warrior” trend this season.  The good news is all the metallic accents and chains from the rocker easily translate to the warrior fad.  Leather is also very vogue.  Don’t think military when you think this trend, instead it combines more elements of ancient Roman or Amazonian soldiers.  Modern elements are mixed with the ancient to create an amazingly unforgettable look.  For example, studded belts, gladiator sandals, and chain jewelry all have that inherent ancient warrior quality to them.  Pair them with flowing feminine blouses, dresses, or skirts or unexpected textures like sequins, velvet, or silk to create an outfit.  “This isn’t the sort of trend where rules should be laid down; it’s open to interpretation and rich with possibility. It’s not intended to be taken too literally either, and works best when an outfit gives the impression of some underlying fierceness rather than the overt look of a costume.”  Tribal patterns should not be forgotten as part of this trend as well.

Guide to Amsterdam International Fashion Week

The Amsterdam International Fashion Week (AIFW) is an event that takes place twice a year to celebrate the fashion trends of the season. The AIFW was an initiative that started in the year 2004 as a way to promote the fashion industry in Amsterdam. Today, it is one of the big fashion events which sets trends in the fashion world.

During the AIFW, there are a series of fashion shows, a number of presentations, trade fairs, meetings, parties, gallery exhibitions and lectures which are well attended by the luminaries of the fashion industry, both in the Netherlands and across the world. Most of the designers who are featured during the Amsterdam International Fashion Week are from the Netherlands and Belgium but the visitor mix very much international in numbers.

The Fashion Week takes place every year at the end of January and then later at the end of July. The most important event of the Laundry Day events is the two day Mode Fabreik, which is an important fashion fair that is held at the RAI Congress Centre. Also in conjunction with the AIWF, there is also a Fashion Week Downtown event that takes place, which is open for the general public. This event includes a number of public fashion shows, shop launches and much more. There are a number of venues for the various events; some of them include the Amsterdam Historich Museum, Rijksmuseum, Foam Photography Amsterdam and the Beurs van Berlage.

While most of the main AIFW events are only open to special invitees, there are a number of events, especially the Laundry Day events that are open to the general public. There are tickets on sale for these events at various prices, with the most important events such as the Mode Fabreik normally priced at around Euros 15 for entry, whilst some other events offer free entry.

When one thinks of the big fashion shows, Paris, NYC and London immediately come to mind, but you will get the chance to see many of the same exhibitors, models and designers at the Amsterdam event. The event in the RAI centre is preferred to some of the larger events by some attendees with a more intimate atmosphere compared for example with New York Fashion Week. ‘Green Fashion’ is one of the themes for the 2010 show and this includes a look at the materials and recycling of clothes and any way in which the fashion industry can move forward in merging fashion and the environment.
