One of the noteworthy designer duos that have made a name for itself in the Indian fashion industry is that of Rohit Gandhi and Rohit Khanna. The twosome always in the habit to present contemporary and chic style that also offers comfort and ease. Detailing to fabric and prominence on sharp, well-defined cuts has enabled this designer duo to acquire a name for them in the Indian design industry and all theses qualities made him the finale designer of the first ever India men’s week which the whole world is going to witness from 11th to 13th Sept. For SS’10, the designer is going to reflect our changing relationship with nature and explores our connection with the industrial environment in the form of masculine dresses with the theme called ‘Hyper nature’ “Nature today is not green. Today we live in a world that is complex and uncontrollable and the city has become a nature of its own. The already fading boundaries between nature and culture have long disappeared and given birth to what is ‘Hypernature’” well said and this is what we expect from finale designer to raise some social issue with their talent. The collection enjoys an infusion of new age cuts and constructions. Bottoms in knit with dropped crotches, small collars with thin ties, overalls in canvas and denim suits represent the new silhouettes which effortlessly blend from structured to relax. Modern and experimental with a twist, the collection through its various details like deconstruction, color blocking, textures and strong graphic prints reinforces the phenomena that are Hyper nature.
With the colour palette being the Black, white and grey with sharp accents of forest green, apple red and mist blues, their models will don a Tall, lean, trendy and confident look with loads of attitude. On questioning about the target buyers, they reiterates “In times of recession, everybody who is ready to buy” And what is the factor that can accelerate the growth of Indian fashion industry “We already tried and joined hands and decided that there would be one fashion week in Delhi- the 2 in Delhi have already become one. Wouldn’t it be great if India has one unified fashion week? And the idea of other cities having their own fashion weeks for the publicity of certain sponsors is diluting the entire concept of the fashion week. The way they are springing up, you won’t be surprised to hear a Bandra fashion week very soon. It’s about time we get serious and not make a mockery of ourselves in front of the whole world.
Coming out of the mountains of Ladakh, this time designer siblings Shantanu-Nikhil are weaving a different story which is going to present a different attitude of man. Inspired by a soul-searching story of a boy detested by his father and manipulated by his mother and eventually growing up to be the most admired military commanders of all time, Shantanu-Nikhil is all geared for the India Men’s Week Spring-Summer’ 2010 with their collection baptized as ‘The Macedonian King’. The collection illustrates the classical era of the world history which marks the emergence of the revered conqueror – Alexander The Great – and weaves the spiritual journey of world conquest. Power, rule, gentleness and placidity describes the collection the best and portrays the emotion that expresses the ruler’s supremacy, his gentle sensitivity and love for rich cultural influences. The colour palette is in sync with the theme of the collection. While the red accentuates his victories over the world that celebrates his power, the other garments presented in whites and off-whites will showcase the need of purity in his life after the blood-spattered conquests. On the other hand, to offer a touch of luxury and glory to their collection, designers have highlighted that era of extravaganza with a tint of gold that strongly defines his personality as a king and an emperor.
Talking about the silhouettes, just like the collection presented by them in the S-S 2009, this time again the designers are all set to create the magic again with the draped structures. “The silhouettes are mainly hand draped with a deep sense and need for utility,” emphasized Nikhil. The designers have managed to present this era in a strong mix of chenille yarns and threads which are turned into the luxurious range of fabrics. With an aim to present the mix of contemporary designs and vintage Indian sensibilities, it seems the collection has been targeted at young and trendy men who are ready to experiment with their look.
